Lockdown = Binge-Watching

If you’re unlucky enough to be stuck in a COVID-19 lockdown, I’m sure you’re bored out of your mind and have tried everything to cure this. A common source of entertainment and, to be honest, escape from reality, is Netflix… as well as plenty of other similar streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Hulu, NowTv etc. Most people have probably re-watched all the usual series such as Friends, Gossip Girl and Modern Family, however, there were a few series which I only discovered over the last few months that really had me hooked.

Below are my top 10 favourite series I have watched over the past year:

10. The Haunting of Hill House / Bly Manor

This spookily good show about ghosts, family trauma and dealing with demons (both metaphorically and literally) really pulled me in and even made me cry at a point. However, the second season just wasn’t as good as the first which means this show is my 10th place pick.

9. Brooklyn-9-9

This series really made me laugh and brought some joy to bad days. I also love Terry Crews so immediately it was one of my favourite shows.

8. Hollywood

If you love the glitz and glamour that is associated with Hollywood then this is the perfect show for you. Set in the 1940’s, many famous actors and actresses from this epic era are portrayed in the show as well as some loveable fictional characters. This series re-writes history and shows what a more inclusive film industry would’ve looked like. Also, the main character Jack is just a treat for the eyes.

7. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

This creepy but fun reboot of ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ was my Halloween watch last year. The characters are hilarious and the show featured some gripping plot lines. It also has 4 seasons which means there is plenty to binge. It’s also worth noting that Kiernan Shipka is amazing as the lead in this.

6. The Politician

This unlikely favourite of mine really shocked me by how fascinating and dynamic it was. This series about a young aspiring politician who aims to be President of the United States has all the drama of a high school tv show but also a political aspect similar to House of Cards. The show also has a very diverse cast and darker plot lines which I enjoyed.

5. The Crown

This very successful tv show about the British Monarchy really surprised me in how authentic and gripping it was. I loved the way in which the show portrayed different time periods in history and different members of the infamous family.

4. Ratched

The legend that is Sarah Paulson was captivating in this series based on the nurse Mildred Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. It gave me extreme American Horror Story vibes which made this my #4 favourite.

3. The Undoing

First of all, this thrilling series really got in my head and made me question my character-judging abilities. Secondly, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant are everything in this murder mystery drama set in New York. This is a must watch.

2. Euphoria

Zendaya is a revelation in this dark teen drama that tackles drug addiction and depression. I was completely in awe of her performance especially coming from a Disney Channel background. The storylines are hard-hitting and captivating and I loved every second of it.

1. Schitt’s Creek

Schitt’s Creek was a show that once I finished watching, I wished I had found sooner. The hilarious performances from the main 4 characters had me in fits of laughter and the story of the show pulled at my heart strings. This was the best thing I watched all year.

Well, I hope I have given you some ideas that will help cure your lockdow boredom.

Wishing you love,
