During lockdown, my screen time has been at an all time high… the same as many people probably.
I feel like I’ve seen the people I follow on Instagram more than my own friends and family.
While the majority of the time I only use Instagram to post photos I love and keep up with people I know, it can cause me to feel insecure from time to time.
Every day there are thousands of photos of bikini models posing on a beach somewhere tropical or picture perfect couples being shoved down our throats via the explore page. It is so important to remember we are over-exposed to these ‘perfect’ images.
No one is ‘perfect’. No matter how they appear on Instagram. It is all just appearances and extremely fabricated.
It is also important to remember that the majority of Influencers on the app are having to create the ‘perfect instagram’ in order to make money. The illusion these people create using filters, nice backgrounds and angles is what earns them their living.
Hence, you should never compare yourself to these people. If only you could see the reality behind the ‘perfect life’ instagram shows you, you would be see it’s far from perfect. You would also feel differently about yourself, better most likely.
I recently read a quote that made me put things into perspective.
It read ‘Don’t compare your life to someone else's Instagram as it is only a highlight reel’.
I hope this helps you realise that you’re fantastic as your unique self.
Wishing you love,
